Description
This presentation explores the design, additive manufacturing and thermal performance of a CuCr1Zr cooling plate with an internal gyroid structure for electronic components in particle accelerator systems. The manufacturing process combines laser powder bed fusion with subsequent heat treatment and machining of functional surfaces. Steady-state and transient conjugate heat transfer (CHT) simulations in Ansys Discovery couple heat conduction in the solid with coolant flow and heat transfer. Temperature distributions, flow behaviour and pressure drop are compared with a reference plate featuring conventional cooling channels under identical operating conditions. The results indicate lower peak temperatures, particularly during transient loading, accompanied by increased pressure drop, highlighting the trade-off between thermal performance and hydraulic resistance.
