Description
The manufacturing of normal-conducting accelerator structures relies on a long supply and manufacturing chain, in which time and cost drivers are sometimes hidden within subsystems. Additive manufacturing offers the opportunity to drastically simplify manufacturing processes and thus generate economic value. However, this requires a fundamental reevaluation of existing designs rather than merely adapting them in part to the capabilities of additive manufacturing. Several critical issues drawn from industrial manufacturing experience will be examined, and additive manufacturing solutions will be presented.
